Spring 2023 – Mapping Rome
Temple of Vesta Site Presentation
This project is unique because it did not produce a paper or other physical conclusion. It was an in-person site presentation for a travel seminar completed through the Classics Department. I spent an entire semester researching the Temple of Vesta within the Roman Forum. I became well versed in its purposes, history, and layout so that when on site I could present the structure to my class. Below are my cue cards, containing the key points that I discussed during the presentation, along with a photo of me at my site.
I had never had a major presentation in college before this assignment. I had to fill almost twenty minutes of time with just my voice, and most people who know me can attest to how much I hate the sound of my own voice. I try to keep my contributions to discussions brief, but meaningful. This was a challenge.
There were parts of my presentation that I wish had gone better, but for the most part it was a pretty smooth delivery, despite standing in extreme heat and sun. If I ever had the opportunity to do it all over again I probably would have practiced more but given that I wanted to explore as much of the city of Rome as possible, I definitely missed out on some valuable time for preparation.
